Chadian PM Announces Bid for Presidency
Former opposition leader Succes Masra, who was named in January as Prime Minister, has announced his bid for the presidency. The move follows the recent killing of Yaya Diallo, another opposition leader who many regarded a stronger challenger to Interim President Mahamat Déby. Some analysts think the decision by Masra to run "only serves to legitimize an election that has already been decided". Meanwhile local news agencies report a heightened sense of insecurity in the capital N'djamena as security forces continue a crackdown on opposition members.
