South Africa Govt Given Go-Ahead to Appeal Zimbabwe Permit Ruling

Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has been granted leave to appeal the ruling by three judges sitting as a full bench in the Pretoria High Court who deemed his decision to terminate the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) program unlawful, unconstitutional, and invalid.

Motsoaledi has instructed his legal representatives to file a supplementary affidavit in the Constitutional Court accordingly.

The termination of the ZEP program raises concerns about leaving 178,000 Zimbabweans undocumented, along with thousands of children born in South Africa to parents holding the permit.
