Zimbabwe Declares State of Disaster Over Widespread Drought

Zimbabwe joined neighboring countries in declaring a state of disaster due to a crippling drought, exacerbated by the El Nino weather pattern.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa stressed the urgent need for $2 billion in humanitarian aid to address the crisis. Due to below-average rainfall in over 80% of the country, millions of Zimbabweans are currently facing the threat of starvation. Mnangagwa called upon international organizations, local businesses, and faith groups to come together and provide vital assistance to prevent famine and ensure food security for all Zimbabweans.
