Liberian Govt Criticized Over Deal For Hundreds of Excavators

The Liberian government has come under criticisms following an announcement of a plan to bring into the country 285 pieces of excavator machines from China. Those critical of the deal, amongst them prominent senators, say there's a lack of transparency about the nature of the agreement and what the country has been committed to. But supporters say the equipment are badly needed to help fix the country's poor road network.

The announcement, which was made during a cabinet retreat, did not give much information about the source of funding, leading to accusations of corruption.
