Alleged Coup Plot Leads To Detention Of Nigerian Soldiers

A number of Nigerian army officers have been detained in connection with a foiled coup, according to reports. Their detention comes after the surprise sacking of the Chief of Defence Staff and other senior army officers by President Bola Tinubu.

Without categorically denying that the officers were involved in an alleged coup, the military said its probe of the officers "is a routine internal process aimed at ensuring discipline and professionalism is maintained within the ranks".

Following the initial arrests of 16 officers, more soldiers have reportedly been rounded up in connection with the alleged coup.
