Ex-Finance Minister Tweah Accuses Liberian VP of Plot to Jail Him

Former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah has accused Vice President Jeremiah Koung of orchestrating a plot to have him imprisoned to clear a path for the VP's own presidential ambitions. Tweah leveled the accusations after the resumption of his corruption trial, where he and several other former officials face charges related to the alleged misappropriation of $6.2 million.

The funds in question were reportedly earmarked for national security purposes during the previous administration. The case had previously been stalled after defense attorneys mounted a constitutional challenge, arguing that the expenditures were protected as matters of national security and were therefore shielded from criminal scrutiny. The defense said these actions taken within the scope of executive authority should not expose former cabinet members to prosecution.

The Supreme Court, however, dismissed these arguments, ruling that constitutional immunity applies exclusively to a sitting president and does not extend to cabinet officials
