Presidency Denies Gusau's Resignation

The presidency described as false online reports that the Defence Minister, Lieutenant General Aliyu Gusau (rtd), has resigned. The Senior Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, told reporters barely two hours after the story broke that General Gusau remained in office as Minister of Defence. Abati said the Minister of Defence was absent from the Federal Executive Council meeting with the permission of the president.
