Today 50 years ago, the first human to human heart transplant was conducted by a team lead by cardiac pioneer, Professor Christiaan Neethling Barnard. It made headlines the world over and changed the landscape of cardiac surgery. In the early hours of the 3rd of December 1967, the lives of Barnard, Denise Darvall and Louis Washkansky became intertwined forever.
