UBA Empowers Pupils Through Promo.

In demonstration of its commitment towards the education and empowerment of the youths, United Bank for Africa (UBA) plc will on Thursday 30, July 2009 reward 20 lucky pupils at the first draw of its U-Care promo which runs from May to 31, August 2009. The draw will hold at the banks' Corporate Head Office in Marina, Lagos.

The U-Care account is a product targeted at children of school going age and it enables parents and guardians to conveniently finance the education needs of their wards all year round with ease.

According to the Divisional Head, Retail Liabilities, United Bank for Africa (UBA) plc, Mr. Jaimal, Shergill, the promo is conceived as a platform to enhance the banks' Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) drive especially in the educational sector. It is geared towards boosting the opportunities available to account holders to help in ease the burden usually associated with the financing of their education.

"20 winners will be awarded bursaries valued at N50, 000.00 each with the Southern and Northern operations of the bank each producing 10 winners during the draw" Shergill said.

He said that the grand finale of the draw which will hold in September will also reward five pupils who will benefit from scholarships worth one million five hundred thousand naira (N1, 500,000.00).

Explaining the requirement for participating in the draw, Jaimal said that new customer's wishing to participate in the draw can open the U-Care savings accounts with N2, 000.00 and build it up to N5, 000.00 at least 30 days before the commencement of each monthly draw. "Existing customers who have indicated interest by completing the promo form must make fresh deposit N5, 000.00 or build it -up gradually into an existing U-Care savings account for at least 30 days before the commencement of the first draw" he also said.

He said to qualify for the grand draw, each customer who has indicated interest by completing a form must make fresh deposits of N5, 000.00 every month for 4 months noting that the amount can be credited into the U-Care savings account via a standing order, U-direct or cash deposit.

It should be recalled that the United Bank for Africa (UBA) plc recently embarked on development of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises across Africa through skills empowerment. The bank in conjunction with EMPRETEC Nigeria Foundation has run successful workshops in major cities in Nigeria and Ghana in the first phase, while other African countries such as; Cameroon, Uganda, Liberia, Burkina Faso etc will follow suit in the second phase.
