The African Development Bank Group has appointed Armand Nzeyimana as Director of the Development Impact and Results Department, effective 16th November 2023.

Nzeyimana, a Burundian national, is a seasoned and results-oriented professional with over 30 years of experience driving organizational effectiveness, delivery and performance management in various international development institutions.

Prior to his appointment, Nzeyimana served as Acting Director of the Development Impact and Results Department while doubling as Division Manager for the Delivery Support and Implementation Division. He was appointed Division Manager in November 2017; since then, he was responsible for coordinating performance management activities and driving delivery in critical priority areas of the Bank. During this period, he was instrumental in enhancing accountability for delivery and building a high-performance culture within the institution.

Pursuing a pragmatic approach, Nzeyimana has led key institutional reforms and initiatives, from the development of the Operations Delivery Dashboard and design of Joint Key Performance Indicators in support of the "One Bank" delivery model, to the review of the Bank's cost structure and cost efficiency indicators. During the challenging Covid-19 period, he led a multi-departmental team in charge of advising senior management on optimal operations delivery plans, in line with prudential limits.

Over his career at the Bank, Nzeyimana has developed an in-depth understanding of the institution's operational and corporate environment. He has demonstrated exceptional strategic acumen and ability to work across institutional boundaries to deliver results. In recent years, he has spearheaded the Bank's support to Government Delivery Units and the establishment of the African Delivery Units Network, a platform for sharing knowledge, experience and expertise among Delivery Units established on the continent.

Before joining the Bank, Nzeyimana held various positions in multilateral development institutions and international non-governmental organisations in Africa and the Caribbean, leading financial controls, organizational effectiveness and performance management activities. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance from Western Michigan University in the US and a bachelor's degree in finance and accounting from Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC) de Montreal.

Of his appointment, Nzeyimana said: "I am deeply grateful to President Adesina for the confidence and trust placed in me through this appointment. It is a great honour to lead the amazing Development Impact and Results team. I look forward to working under the guidance of the Senior Vice President with talented colleagues across the Bank to accelerate the Bank's development results for a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and integrated continent."

The President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina said: "I am pleased to appoint Mr. Armand Nzeyimana as the Director of the Development Impact and Results Department. Armand, a seasoned development professional and results and performance management expert, will lead the team to support Senior Management in meeting the Bank's development mandate through improved delivery, impact, operational and corporate performance, thereby increasing the Bank's impact on development of the continent."
