At the Summit held in Abuja, Nigeria, on 14 November 2004, at the initiative of President Olusegun Obasanjo, Current Chairperson of the African Union, the African Heads of State in attendance requested the convening of a meeting of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) on the situation in Côte d’Ivoire at the level of Heads of State and Government. Subsequently, the 20th PSC session, held in Addis Ababa on 15 November 2004, at Permanent Representatives’ level endorsed the proposal of the envisaged PSC meeting.
