The period under review was dominated by the preparations for the forthcoming presidential elections in a highly polarized atmosphere, largely due to the legal controversies surrounding the eligibility of the two former Presidents, João Bernardo “Nino” Vieira and Koumba Yala, who had decided to stand for the 19 June elections.
