June 22, 2006 was the launch of Liberia's Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), presided over by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf at a public ceremony in Monrovia. These events mark the official start of the TRC's two-year mandate to investigate human rights abuses that occurred between 1979 and 2003.
