South Africa's highest court has ruled that a section of the legislation that paved the way for the disbanding of the anti-corruption crime fighting body known as the Scorpions and its replacement by the police unit dubbed the Hawks was constitutionally invalid because it did not provide enough protection against political influence.

The first part of the full judgement is the minority opinion of the Chief Justice and three other judges. The second is that of the majority of the court, the Deputy Chief Justice and four other judges.
