The South African Constitutional Court ruled in favor of the Citizen newspaper in a defamation case, holding that the granting of amnesty under the Promotion of National Unity and Reconciliation Act of 1995 does not make the fact that an individual committed a crime untrue.  It held that the Act did not prohibit frank public discussion of the underlying crimes.
