Hosni Mubarak has appeared in court for the first day of his trial.

Laying on a hospital stretcher inside a cage, and dressed in prison uniform, the 83-year-old former Egyptian president denied all the charges against him, including the charge of ordering the killing of protesters.

Many Egyptians were delighted to see their former president humbled. His trial has now been adjourned until August 15.

Al Jazeera's Sherine Tadros reports from the courthouse about how Egyptians see this historic day.
