Kibaki Signs Price Control Act 2011

President Mwai Kibaki has signed the Price Control (Essential Goods) Act 2011, which will now make it possible for the government to fix the prices of certain commodities. The move is however likely to be interpreted as populist by some economists, and it might not pass unnoticed that it is a much watered-down version of the originally proposed law.
