In yet another sign of confusion, health workers who have been on strike appear to have disowned a back to work formula agreed with the government Sunday evening.

The Health workers today continued with their strike despite an announcement they made with the Minister for Medical Services Prof Anyang Nyongo ending the industrial action.

The striking health workers held demonstration this morning disregarding an appeal by the Minister and their officials yesterday to end their strike and resume work this morning. But the workers defied the appeal saying they will continue with the strike until their demands are met.

They accused the Government of not providing them with anything on the table so that they return to work. They vowed to camp outside the ministry offices until they are heard. The strike which is on its 6th day was called off by the minister accompanied by a section of officials of the health workers' union.

The nurses have accused the Minister for making the announcement without involving them. They also argued that the return to work formula initiated by the government was not clear.

The workers now plan to constitute a team to negotiate with the government on the way forward as they demanded that the case in court be withdrawn.

In effect this means, provision of medical services in government health institutions would continue being paralyzed. According to Nyong'o, the government had agreed to embark on negotiations with the health workers starting on the 7th March 2012.
