The discovery of the oil find in Turkana county was big news received with even greater enthusiasm countrywide than many other achievements in independent Kenya's history. But nowhere was the news better received than in Turkana County, where residents told Citizen TV that the discovery of oil there could be the game changer in the latest efforts to move the county out of the bowels of poverty it finds itself in. But as Abdi Osman reports guarded optimism replaced the wave of excitement there, after it emerged that it could take years before oil is actually pumped out of the wells there for export.
