The High Court sitting in Mombasa has overturned a decision by the government to outlaw the coast-based Mombasa Republican Council group. A three-bench judge ruled that the gazette notice that proscribed the group in 2010 was unconstitutional and the secessionist group should be allowed to pursue its interests but through legal means. But the government, through Attorney General Githu Muigai immediately said it would appeal the decision on grounds that any group or organization that challenges the constitutional authority and territorial integrity of the republic of Kenya should not be protected by the constitution of the country.
