Kenya Police Oppose Deployment of Army to Tana River

An additional 1,800 General Service Unit police officers have been deployed in the Tana Delta to help end the bloodletting and restore peace, even as Parliament passed a motion urging the President to dispatch the military the clash - prone area. The police however insist that they were up to the task and instead of deploying the military, the Cabinet should give the officers a directive to use force against perpetrators of violence in the volatile region.
