The meteorological department has warned families living in flood-prone areas to move to higher ground as the short rains season sets in.

The warning comes barely 24 hours after flash floods caused by heavy rains swept through several estates in Nairobi last night leaving a trail of destruction and disrupting transport and electricity supply.

The weatherman says the rains, which are expected to persist this evening, will continue until mid-December with some parts of Western and Central Kenya expected to receive above normal rains. Brenda Cheruiyot has that report.
