Nigeria's military says it's gone on red alert status in the Niger Delta. That's following the resumption of hostilities, by militant group MEND. MEND has been largely dormant since 2009. That's after the government offered its fighters amnesty. The group had fough for a greater share of the Niger Delta's oil wealth which impacted greatly on Nigeria's oil output.
But the group has now called off a long-standing truce and is threatening a string of attacks. The military says it is also mobilising naval and air assets.
