The displaced persons camp run by Vital Voices Global Leadership Awards 2013 honoree (and Glamour Woman of the Year 2010) Dr. Hawa Abdi and her daughters Deqo and Amina, was attacked earlier this month by an armed militia of 100 men. Dr. Hawa Abdi, an activist and physician who has protected the lives, health and rights of Somalis -- especially women and children -- throughout one of the most violent and persistent civil wars in recent history, appeals to the international community to help her rebuild and provide security to the camp.
