Law Against Same Sex Marriage Not New In Nigeria

Nigeria recently passed a bill into law criminalising gay marriage, a development that has been criticised by some world leaders. International law experts say the law has been existing in Nigeria. The Act nullifies any sexual union contracted outside the country or within the country. Analyst Sodomy is not a new crime in Nigeria, as the Criminal Code of Nigeria section 214 prohibits such relationship. The criminal code is almost 100 years old. Under that section, it is called offences against nature and it has a punishment of 14 years imprisonment. Canada, USA and UK condemned the enactment of the law.
