The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) warns the situation in South Sudan is alarming and could get worse for tens of thousands of people. Some 3.5 million South Sudanese are now experiencing crisis or emergency levels of food insecurity. FAO's Head of Office in South Sudan and the UN's Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator in the country has this account of the human cost of the conflict
