With 17,958 people killed in terrorist attacks last year, there has never been a more crucial time to understand the impact of terrorism and to identify its underlying causes.  The 2014 Global Terrorism Index provides a comprehensive statistical analysis of the state of terrorism and identifies the social, economic and political factors that drive it. Nigeria is fourth for 2013, primarily arising from terrorist attacks carried out by Boko Haram in northern Nigeria.
