The story of how Chagossians were forced to leave their homes in the Indian Ocean in the 1960s and 1970s to make way for a military base on land leased by Britain to the United States. The base was built on the island of Diego Garcia, the largest of the Chagos Archipelago. Since then, families have been separated, living mostly in the Seychelles, Mauritius and the UK.
