Africa: Two Win In Boxing Quarterfinals

Two boxers - one from Morocco and one from Algeria - carry Africa's hopes into the semi-finals of the Olympic competition.

Tahar Tamsamani of Morocco beat Israel Hector Perez of Argentina on points (21-18) in the Featherweight division on Wednesday. In the Light Welterweight division, Algerian Mohamed Allalou defeated Sven Paris of Italy (22-8).

However, in the same division Saleh Abdelbary Abdel Maksoud of Egypt went out of the tournament when he suffered a headblow in the second round of his bout with Diogenes Luna Martinez of Cuba and the referee stopped the fight.

Samuel Peter of Nigeria went down 3-14 to Paulo Vidoz of Italy in the Super Heavyweight division. Jegbefumere Albert of Nigeria was beaten 7-8 by Rudolf Kraj of the Czech Republic in the Light Heavyweight division, while Hekal Mohamed Abdelmawgod of Egypt lost 9-15 to Pornchai Thongburan of Thailand in the Light Middleweight division.
