Washington, D.C. — The Honorable Gabriel Nguema Lima, Vice-Minister of Mines, Industry and Energy, from the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, will speak in the plenary panel titled Coping with Challenges: The African Perspective during the Corporate Council on Africa's upcoming Africa Oil & Gas Forum, to be held from November 29 to December 1, 2006 in Washington, D.C.
Vice-Minister Lima, invited African ministers, and other key decision makers will address the unique challenges faced by African oil and gas producing countries and U.S. oil and gas companies with operations in Africa. The panel will also discuss avenues for joint-partnerships and steps to address identified challenges. The session will address important topics including understanding legal environments, local content, and natural gas in Africa.
Gabriel Nguema Lima has been Equatorial Guinea's Vice-Minister of for Mines, Industry and Energy since 2003. From 1999 to 2003 he was Secretary of State for Mines and Hydrocarbons. He is the President of the Committee for the Monitoring of Petroleum Operations and a member of the boards of SONAGAS, GEPetrol, and SEGESA. Vice-Minister Lima holds a degree in Economics from Alma College in Dallas, Texas. He speaks English, French, and Spanish fluently.
Africa is rising in importance as a strategic supplier of oil and gas to the United States, with African oil producing countries expected to meet 17% of total U.S. energy needs by 2010. Continued dialogue between U.S. and African stakeholders is vital for forging strong relationships that can serve the mutual energy interests of both the United States and African countries.
CCA's Africa Oil & Gas Forum is an important event for convening key players in the oil and gas sector. The 2006 Forum will highlight areas for growth and discuss challenging issues in the field. It will emphasize building and maintaining partnerships between the United States and African countries.
