President Donald Kaberuka on Monday in Tunis opened a three-day workshop on "Challenges and Opportunities for Supreme Audit Institutions in Africa" with more than 50 participants including Auditors-General from 25 RMCs and experts from development partner institutions attending. The event is expected to enhance the Bank Group's profile as one of the leading institutions in promoting transparency and accountability across the continent.

Opening the workshop, President Donald Kaberuka highlighted the renewed commitment of the Bank, emphasized its new Governance Strategic Directions and Action Plan, to help African countries strengthen good financial governance and, in particular, build robust auditing systems.

Furthermore, Mr. Kaberuka underlined the vital role SAIs play in enhancing public integrity and advancing accountability, and encouraged development partners to coordinate their support to SAIs in Africa.  The President called for the launching of an Africa Integrity Compact that would crystallize the African agenda for good financial governance.

The purpose of the event is to share lessons and experiences on the challenges and opportunities faced by audit offices to foster integrity and fight corruption in the management of public resources. The workshop is organized by the Bank's Department of Governance, Economic and Financial Reforms (OSGE), in close collaboration with the African Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI), the Tunisia Court of Accounts and the World Bank.
