As part of their programme of visits to regional member countries, a delegation of Executive Directors of the Bank Group is currently on a consultation mission to Burkina Faso.
The AfDB portfolio in Burkina Faso comprises 17 ongoing projects amounting to UA 342 million, about. CFAF 255 billion (grants and loans), net commitment, including national components of regional projects.
The new 2011-2015 strategy in preparation will be aligned with the government's new development strategy, entitled, "Strategy for Accelerated Growth and Sustainable Development", and will focus on economic infrastructure development and economic diversification reinforcement to reduce the country's vulnerability.
While in Burkina Faso, the Executive Directors will visit two AfDB-funded projects - the Ouahigouya Regional Hospital, rehabilitated under the Health Development Support Project in Central-Eastern and Northern Regions (PADS-CEN), and the Goinré dam as well as areas reclaimed under the small dams development and sustainable management project.
These consultations will help to improve aid effectiveness and enhance results produced by Bank-funded programmes and projects.
The Executive Directors will have a unique opportunity to assess projects and discuss some of the many development challenges facing the country, as well as strategies or policies followed, and actions required to consolidate and deepen policy dialogue with Regional Member Countries, donors, private sector and civil society organizations.
The tour will also send a clear message concerning the AfDB Group assistance strategy, including its priorities and areas where dialogue with national, provincial or local government authorities should be deepened to maximize synergy effects.
