Enhancing Implementation of Environmental and Social Management Plans in the Agriculture and Natural Resources Sectors

The Bank, through the natural resources and environment management, and the compliance and safeguard divisions, is holding two regional workshops in Dakar, Senegal (July 5-6, 2012) for francophone participants and Nairobi, Kenya (July 12-13, 2012) for Anglophone participants.

Serving as a platform to share experiences and lessons learned in implementing Environmental and Social Management Plans, the workshop will bring together eighty-five (85) environmental and social specialists implementing agriculture and natural resources management projects in an effort to enhance their capacity in implementing ESMPs. Effective implementation of the plans will ensure environmental and social sustainability in agriculture operations is achieved.

Through effective application of supervision, monitoring and reporting tools, the workshop participants are expected to gain deeper knowledge and understanding on the importance of ESMPs in project implementation and its role in ensuring environmental and social outcomes are achieved during project implementation.
