On a visit to the Central African Republic (CAR) on 10 May 2014, the Special Envoy on Gender of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi, said that "international assistance must be forthcoming in order to support Central African Republic rid itself from impunity and rebuild critical social infrastructure".

Faser-Moleketi was in Bangui, the capital, along with Mary Robinson, UN Secretary General for the Great Lakes region, and Boubacar Diarra, African Union Special Representative for the Great Lakes region, to discuss the country's critical transition and stabilization efforts.

During her visit, the Special Envoy met with CAR President Cathérine Samba-Panza, as well as Archbishop Dieudonné Nzapalainga and Imam Omar Kobine, representatives of religious communities, which until recently had been living side by side and in peace.

In an exchange with her guests of international bodies Samba-Panza said that as head of the transitional government, she aims to get women actively involved in the private sector and in business, as currently they do not have the resources to occupy this crucial space. Once involved in business, she believes that women's independent income would lead them to greater choices.

In concluding her mission, the Special Envoy on Gender commended the government and international development partners for the efforts they have been deploying to restore security in the country. Fraser-Moleketi also noted the important regional efforts to support the transitional authorities. "Rebuilding state institutions and the public sector for better service delivery will be critical to ensure the longer term development," she said.
