South Africa: Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba Resigns

The mayor of South Africa's economic hub has resigned after former opposition party leader Helen Zille was elected as the chairperson of the Democratic Alliance's federal executive council, the party's highest decision making body.

He said: "I cannot reconcile myself with a group of people who think race is irrelevant when dealing with social economic conditions of people."
