At Huawei Network Summit 2023, Mam Singui, Power Transmission Manager with Senelec, Senegal, spoke about his company's collaboration with Huawei in terms of building an advanced intelligent network architecture. He highlighted how this architecture drives diversified service innovations to facilitate intelligent and efficient development of electric power services.

Senegal enjoys political stability, a robust economy, and a solid foundation for Internet and electricity access. Senelec, a state-owned company, operates a nationwide optical fiber network that is responsible for power generation, transmission, and distribution across the country. This network provides stable power services to 1.75 million households, businesses, and more. The "Plan Sénégal Émergent" roadmap proposes to invest heavily in the energy sector. With Huawei's help, Senelec has deployed a robust and reliable multi-service converged transport network for power, enhancing the development of energy infrastructure and services.

Mam Singui believes that IP-based power networks have a crucial role to play in network reconstruction. By constructing an IP-based transmission backbone network and leveraging the benefits of optical fiber resources, Senelec has established a smart grid with enhanced resource utilization efficiency, creating new growth space for power services and accelerating the digital transformation of the national economy.

As Senelec shifts from traditional power operations to industrial smart grids, accompanying changes in power transport services poses challenges to its power data networks. For example, the large numbers of access IoT terminals and services flowing in multiple directions call for flexible site access. Furthermore, the widespread application of services such as power transmission, substation video and image collection, and inspection robots means it is vital to increase the transport efficiency for new services. And as the network's scale and number of connections grow rapidly, manual maintenance and O&M capabilities are quickly becoming inadequate. What's more, the communication devices are outdated, network costs are exorbitant, and transmission network bandwidth resources are insufficient.

Thanks to Huawei's solution, Senelec has been able to build a simplified and intelligent WAN backbone network for power. Based on this network, the power distribution network provides fiber to the PT through distribution automation, covering the last 5 km. In addition, the dedicated power wireless network delivers intelligent inspection of power distribution rooms, offering visualization of the network running status and improving O&M efficiency. And the LTE network provides secure and controllable communication for government agencies, enabling a unified command system to be established and improving the national emergency response capability.

Network digitalization enables the deployment of resilient WANs. With Huawei's WAN solution, Senelec not only builds a secure, stable, smart, and agile converged network for power, but also provides better bandwidth operations services for governments and private enterprises.
