Launch of the German Apprenticeship Connect Program 2023

13 November 2023

Namibia is currently grappling with a severe youth unemployment crisis, recording 46% in 2018, according to the Targeted Review Report on Youth Unemployment by the African Peer Review Mechanism.

This figure positions Namibia amongst the highest in Sub-Saharan Africa and globally.

To strategically address the issue, the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) in partnership with the Goethe-Institut Namibia will be launching the German Apprenticeship Connect Program 2023.

The program is designed to provide Namibian youth with access to apprenticeships in Germany by leveraging the longstanding relationship between the two countries and Germany’s dual apprenticeship model, which is renowned for its practical approach to vocational training and skills acquisition. By unlocking this opportunity, the programme aims to equip young Namibians with the relevant skills and international work experience required
to enhance their employability both in Germany and upon their return to Namibia.
