The African Development Bank has appointed Ramzi Ali, a national of Saudi Arabia, as Director of the Staff Welfare Services, Compensation and Employment Policy Department.
Ali, who will take up the position on 18 December, brings over 35 years of experience to the role, largely from multilateral development institutions and the financial sector. His prior experience in the development industry consists of recent roles at both the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah and the OPEC Fund for International Development in Vienna.
Ali was the Senior Director for Corporate Services at the OPEC Fund for International Development, where his areas of responsibility included human resources and information technology, as well as project managing various initiatives.
Prior to that, he was the Director of Human Resources Management at the Islamic Development Bank, where he was involved in the organizational restructuring project at the Bank.
Ali also worked as Director General of the Mayor of Jeddah's Executive Office, where he took on several special projects, including to help move Jeddah towards becoming a top-100 global city as part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030.
He has private sector experience, across several industries, and Vice President of Nesma Holding, where he was responsible for consolidating the strategies and budgets of 40 multi-sector organizations located in Jeddah, Dubai, Sarajevo, Cairo, Split, Istanbul and other cities. His roles have ranged from chocolate manufacturing to running and operating a private airline.
