What: Webinar on the West Africa Power Pool (WAPP)

The African Development Bank will host a webinar focused on the West Africa Power Pool (WAPP) on 30 April 2024.

The webinar will bring together representatives of regional power pools in Africa, regional electricity regulatory authorities in Africa, senior government officials from Africa's energy ministries, development partners, WAPP market players and a variety of other stakeholders.

They will discuss the evolution and status of the WAPP, including its highlights and challenges and brainstorm solutions to addressing challenges.

There will be two sessions as outlined below:

  1. Presentation on WAPP's evolution and status (Key players, Highlights, Challenges, and outlook).
  2. A panel discussion on WAPP achievements and challenges including regional tariffs and payment system, as well as commercial arrangements and strategies to advance and diversify the market to move beyond bilateral contracts as a solution to some of the challenges raised.
