Nigeria: Missile Discovered in Niger Community

A missile has been discovered in the Zugurma area of Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger state.

A source told Daily Trust that the device was uncovered by some locals, who subsequently alerted security agencies for intervention.

The source said the device was suspected to be a Tomahawk missile warhead, believed to be among missiles fired by the United States.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the discovery to our correspondent.

He said the device is under security investigation.

He said, “On 5th Jan, 2026 at about 2pm, a report received from Zugurma area of Mashegu LGA indicated that some locals in the community sighted an object suspected to be a missile in the bush.

“The Police operatives attached to Ibbi Div moved to the scene, cordoned and secured the missile, while the EOD-CBRN unit of the Command was deployed to the scene for investigation, assessment and recovery.

“The item is under investigation and further development will be made public.”
