As part of its New Deal on Energy for Africa, the African Development Bank (AfDB) is charging on with plans to light up Africa. The Bank recently signed a loan facility for USD 1.34 billion towards South Africa's power utility Eskom's capital expenditure program, and approved a USD 11 million grant to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for affordable electricity coverage within the country as well as to neighboring Nile Equatorial Lakes countries.
