COVID-19 Is a Pandemic, Preparation is Key, Says WHO
World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has announced that COVID-19 is a pandemic. He says the hope is that the announcement will focus governments on the adoption of sufficiently stringent measures immediately. In particular, Tedros says, countries should push ahead in four key areas: prepare and be ready, protect and treat, reduce transmission and innovate and learn.

Ministers of Health from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) have agreed to coordinate their efforts to respond to COVID-19 in the region. The regional bloc has also suspended planned public events ias part of efforts to minimise risks from the coronavirus pandemic. SADC meetings will now be conducted via video or teleconferencing.
