Four Princes Jostling for Emir of Zazzau Throne in Nigeria

Following the death of the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, attention has now shifted to choosing a successor. Not all members of the royal families can be considered as it is exclusively reserved for princes from different dynasties in the emirate, whose biological fathers or grandfathers were emirs. Formal education is not important but rather the royal background and character, as well as the decision of the kingmakers and the state governor. Alhaji Shehu Idris ascended the throne in 1975 and was the 18th emir of Zazzau.
