Sudan's Protesters Say They Will Now Focus On Rural Areas

On October 25, 2021, the Sudanese military overthrew the government of Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok.

A year later, the SPLM-N Democratic Revolutionary Movement, a splinter group headed by Yasir Arman, former political advisor to the government of Abdallah Hamdok, called on Sudanese to join demonstrations against the coup d'état.

The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) called on the Sudanese authorities to refrain from the use of force and ensure that people "exercise their rights to peaceful assembly, freedom of opinion, and expression".
