New Lekki Port Set to Transform Nigeria’s Trade and Fortunes

President Muhammadu Buhari has officially opened the U.S.$1.5 billion Lekki Deep Seaport which could have an economic impact across West Africa.

The port is expected to reduce the high cost of bringing goods into the country by reducing the vessel turnaround time, which has hampered business at the country's other ports.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the new facility will create about 200,000 jobs, both directly and indirectly, and generate billions of dollars in revenue for the country.

The Nigerian Ports Authority said that the first commercial vessel has berthed at the Lekki Deep Sea Port. The seaport is a state-of-the-art facility that is the largest seaport and one of the biggest in West Africa that would revolutionise the way goods are transported and traded in Nigeria.
