What U.S.$550 Million World Bank Loan Means for Tanzania

The government has signed a concessional loan agreement of U.S.$ 550 million and a grant of U.S.$ 29.93 million with the World Bank to implement Tanzania's Maternal and Child Health programme.

Finance Minister Mwigulu Nchemba said the U.S.$304 million will be for the sustainable rural water and sanitation project, while the U.S.$275 million will be used for the Tanzania maternal and child health project.

The signed agreement is in line with the third national five-year development plan 2021/22-2025/26 and Zanzibar Vision 2050.

The agreement also forms part of the broad agenda of the sixth phase of government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, which seeks to build a competitive and industrial economy for human development.
