Number of Missing People in Kenya's Shakahola Cult Now Over 200

The number of missing people in cult leader Paul Mackenzie Nthenge's Shakahola forest cult has risen to 212, according to the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS).

The Malindi Sub-County hospital morgue is now full to capacity following the delivery of 78 bodies from on-going exhumations.

The cult leader reportedly "brainwashed" citizens into starving themselves to death in order to "meet Jesus". He turned himself in to police and was charged after two children starved to death while in the custody of their parents, according to local media.

Multi-agency security team have discovered shallow graves on the 800-acre parcel of land that is believed to be owned by the controversial pastor of Good News International Church.

Although his church was shut down in 2019, Mackenzie has continued to attract the masses through his preaching of the 'end times and fasting to go to heaven'.

President William Ruto has likened controversial the cult leader to an extremist who uses religion to advance what he described as "weird and unacceptable ideologies" after radicalising thousands, some of who starved to death.

Ruto expressed deep concern over the revelations in Kilifi's Shakahola forest where over 70 bodies have been exhumed so far with many more believed to be buried there.
