Tinubu Wants Action on Students Taken From Nigerian University

On Friday, September 22, 2023, a group of armed individuals attacked the Federal University Gusau and abducted at least 20 female students from their hostels. Police in Zamfara confirmed the rescue of seven students and deployed additional resources to find the others. The armed group targeted student residences and the university campus itself during the attack.

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and Amnesty International have condemned the attack and called on the government to take all necessary measures to rescue the students.

Zamfara State has been a hotbed of kidnapping, abduction for ransom, banditry, cattle rustling, and other criminal activities for years.

President Bola Tinubu has instructed security agencies to rescue the remaining female students. He condemned the abduction, emphasising the importance of safeguarding education and promising the safe return of the students.
