Nigerian Govt a Step Closer to Curb Raw Mineral Exports

The Federal Executive Council has given its approval for a draft policy in the solid minerals sector, which includes oil activities, operational guidelines, regulatory framework, mining, and other related aspects.

President Bola Tinubu in his first UN General Assembly meeting, spoke of the plunder of minerals from Africa and called on the UN to back African nations in their fight against mineral resource smugglers.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, said that the policy approval empowers his ministry to address issues like security measures and the combating of illegal mining, which is crucial for Nigeria's economic sustainability, given the changes in the global oil market, the focus on climate change, and the shift towards green energy.

This policy aims to make the solid minerals sector more investor-friendly, ensuring stability and security for both local and foreign investments, while promoting environmental regulation.
