Cameroon Launches World's First Malaria Vaccine Programme

Cameroon has initiated the world's first routine vaccine program against malaria, aiming to save numerous children's lives across Africa.

Malaria claims the lives of 600,000 individuals annually in Africa, with children under five constituting 80% of these deaths. The vaccine, provided free of charge to infants up to six months old, requires four doses administered alongside routine childhood vaccines.

Successful pilot campaigns in Kenya, Ghana, and Malawi exhibited a 13% reduction in malaria deaths in eligible children. Cameroon records about six million malaria cases annually, with 20 other countries planning to roll out the program in 2024.
